Track 5. Marketing & Analytics

SEO for Virtual Tours

Make a published tour discoverable: the page title, the description, the share image and the indexing rules that apply to it.

You will set the metadata of a published tour so search engines and social networks show a correct title, a clear description and a proper preview image, and you will check that the page can be indexed at all.

Set the metadata

Open the settings of the published tour and fill in the page title and the meta description. The title should name the object and the place, for example Villa Aurora — virtual tour of the main floor. The description should read as one sentence about what the visitor will see.

  1. Open the tour settings and fill in the page title.
  2. Write a meta description of about 150 characters.
  3. Upload a share image in 1200 by 630 pixels.
  4. Check the canonical URL and publish the changes.

Control the indexing

Public tours can be indexed; unlisted and private tours cannot. If you want a tour found in search, keep it public and point to it with a real page on your own site. The embed itself does not give search engines the text of the tour, so the surrounding page needs its own content.

The structured data of the tour is generated from the published version. After a republish, check that the title and the image are still the ones you set.

Measure the result

Watch the referrer column in the analytics dashboard. A growing share of visits from search engines means the title and the description do their job, while a flat share of direct visits means nobody is clicking your result.
